The Lesedi Projects main goal is to help out the kids that go to the Ethembeni School in South Africa.

Established in 1984, Ethembeni School serves 300 physically disabled and visually impaired children from all over Kwazulu-Natal, Kingdom of the Zulu (South Africa), educating them to reach their highest potential and to become independent and responsible citizens of the community.

These are very talented, but severly disabled children trying to live their life to its potential.

For the Lesedi bead project Balega has commissioned the school to make a series of beadwork items. Each piece is named after a pupil at the school and is being offered for sale through participating Fleet Feet stores. All of the funding and logistical support for this project has been provided by Balega on a non-profit basis. All profits generated by the sale of beadwork pieces are returned directly to the school and go towards the costs of boarding and education.

Fleet Feet Sports, Gaithersburg carries these beautiful beaded necklaces for $2.50 and bracelets for $1.50.  In addition to these items, we now have CDs of contemporary South African music for sale for $13.95. As the cover of the CD states, you'll run through wickedly fresh South African music.  Again, all proceeds from the sale of these CDs will benefit the Ethembeni school.
