 we've moved!

That's righ! We're now in our new location at 255 Kentlands Blvd in the Giant shopping center by GNC and Panera. The bigger, better Fleet Feet Sports, Gaithersburg will be open for business Wednesday, February 17th at 10:00 AM.

The new location will allow for more products and services for the running community. In addition to offering the best in running shoes, apparel and accessories, we now have more products related to trail running, triathlon, yoga and children’s fitness, as well as products related to minimalist running. We have a huge library of informative and inspirational books for customers to thumb through while shopping. Stay tuned for information about our events and educational seminars. And we're offering more of our great running programs for which Fleet Feet Sports, Gaithersburg has become famous!

Fleet feet sports, Gaithersburg named one of the 50 best running stores in America

Fleet Feet Sports, Gaithersburg has been named one of The 50 Best Running Stores in America. The award was presented by Competitor Magazine and Formula 4 Media, producers of The Running Event, the largest conference and trade show for running specialty stores in North America. The awards will be presented on Wednesday, November 11th during The Running Event in Austin, and a write-up will appear in the December issue of Competitor magazine.

The selection of The 50 Best stores was part of a year-long selection by Competitor magazine and Formula 4 Media that involved “secret shopper” evaluation of the store, and feedback from the consumers who shop there and the vendors with whom we do business.

Starting in the spring of 2008, Formula 4 Media solicited nominations from consumers, members of the trade and even stores themselves. The nominations were narrowed down to about 120 stores that underwent an intense evaluation process. The evaluation included a mystery shopping rating that evaluated the store on 20 different points. This was done by a secret shopper who spent $100 in the store and rated it on points ranging from staff knowledge and attitude to "does the store offer clean try-on socks" to how simple was the check-out process.

How a store supports its local community is another key factor in determining what stores make the list. The community support is evaluated based on sponsorship of local races, support of charities and essentially what the store does for its local community of runners.

"There are hundreds of great running stores in the country, but we believe this list represents The 50 Best," said Mark Sullivan, president of Formula 4 Media. "Every store on this list should be proud that they earned their way on to the list based on feedback from the toughest, most objective judges out there, their own customers."

Run with us in 2010

Is one of your 2010 goals to run your first 5K? Have you always wanted to run a 5K race but didn't know where to start? Well, our No Boundaries Beginning 5K Program is the group for you! No previous running experience required!

We will be offering 5 No Boundaries Beginning 5K programs throughout 2010. In these programs, sponsored by New Balance, runners get a detailed training plan, weekly coached runs, a moisture-wicking shirt and much more! Here are the 2010 programs:
 

  • Spring 2010 NoBo 5K (co-ed): meeting at the store at 6:30 PM Monday evenings, beginning in March 22nd and ending May 31st. Goal race is Jeremy's Run 5K on May 31, 2010.
  • Spring 2010 NoBo 5K (women only): meeting at the store at 10:00 AM Wednesday mornings beginning April 7th and ending June 19th. Goal race is Run for Roses 5K June 19, 2010.
  • Spring into Summer NoBo 5K (co-ed): meeting at the store at 6:30 PM Wednesday evenings, beginning in April 28th and ending July 4th. Goal race is Autism Speaks 5K July 4, 2010.
  • Summer NoBo 5K (co-ed): meeting at the store at 6:30 PM Monday evenings, beginning June 28th and ending September 4th. Goal race is the Kentlands/Lakelands 5K September 4, 2010.
  • Fall NoBo5K (co-ed): two groups: one meeting at the store at 6:30 PM Wednesday evenings, the other meeting Wednesday mornings at 10:00 AM, beginning September 8th and ending November 21st. Please specify which group you're joining when you register. Goal race is the TLC King of the Road 5K November 21, 2010.
