GAITHERSBURG, MD. - June 13, 2013 - Due to good ol' Mother Nature, our planned Celebrate Summer Fun Run and Walk sponsored by Saucony has been cancelled for this evening. The event has been rescheduled for Thursday, July 25th at 6:30pm.

On Friday, August 23^rd, gather your friends and family and enjoy a fun-filled evening to support the Kentlands Community Foundation and their upcoming Kentlands/Lakelands 5K. Not only will there be awesome prizes for the best dressed male and female superheroes, there will be fabulous silent auction items from local businesses to bid on – with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the KCF. Fleet Feet Sports Hosts Birthday Party to Say
Thank You to the Running Community for Their Support

GAITHERSBURG, MD – May 13, 2013 – Since May 19^th, 2005 Fleet Feet Sports, Gaithersburg has been serving the local running community with the best possible customer service, and the best options in running footwear, apparel, gear and training.

Eight years ago, Chris and Robyn Gault, opened the doors of their (very small) first store location in the Kentlands. Today, in their current location - still in the Kentlands - they have more than doubled in size and in staff. Their Thursday night and Saturday morning Fun Runs/Walks have grown from a small handful of runners to groups of typically 40 to 70 runners, and their 5K to full marathon training groups have seen thousands of runners successfully from couch to finish line.

“Being able to help transform so many people’s lives through running is an unbelievable feeling,” co-owner, Robyn stated when reflecting back on the past 8 years in the run specialty business. Although both Robyn and Chris previously worked for the American Red Cross, they were on the corporate side of the business and were unable to experience firsthand the feeling of making a difference within the community.

They cherish the relationships and friendships they have built over the years through the store. As avid runners for many years and frequent shoppers at the Fleet Feet Sports in Adams Morgan, leaving corporate America and venturing into Fleet Feet ownership was a clear choice, “The experiences we have had, the people we have met…plus the freedom of being our own boss. We wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

This Thursday, Fleet Feet Sports, Gaithersburg will host their 8^th Birthday Party and Fun Run/Walk to say thank you to the running community that has made the last 8 years possible.

Avon 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer Team
Raises Over $55,000

GAITHERSBURG, MD – May 6, 2013 – Walking 39.3 miles in just 48 hours is a daunting endeavor. Taking on the battle with breast cancer is even more daunting.

This past weekend Fleet Feet’s very own Chris and Robyn Gault, co-owners, and Karen Craney Running Program Director, took to the streets of Washington, DC and proudly walked 26.2 miles on Saturday and 13.1 miles on Sunday with the joint Fleet Feet, Grossberg CPA, Accounting for a Cure with Fleet Feet Sports team.

Last year’s team raised nearly $33,000, but this year’s 19-member team surpassed everyone’s goal and raised over $55,000 for Avon and breast cancer research and support; in total the 2-day event raised an incredible $4.5 million. Chris and Robyn are excited to have had such a successful fundraising year for this important event, and are thankful for the support they have received from not only their personal friends and family, but the surrounding Fleet Feet community.

As Robyn stated, “We are so grateful to have the support of the running community. Without each and every customer and friend, our store and our Avon team would not be such a success.” One of the most successful fundraising events for the Avon Breast Cancer Walk was Fleet Feet’s St. Paddy’s Day Pub Run/Walk. With nearly 100 runners in attendance, the Fun Run/Pub Run generated nearly $2000 for the cause.

Chris and Robyn participate and coordinate a team for this great event every year. They do so to not only celebrate Robyn’s successful fight with breast cancer 11 years ago, but also to honor Chris’ sister who, sadly was not as lucky as Robyn, and lost her battle in 2005.

It’s a long two days and a lot of hard work both physically and mentally, but the overall experience, surrounded by family members, new and old friends, supporters and survivors, is a powerful, moving one. For Chris and Robyn the event is a yearly reminder of how blessed they are to be part of such a strong, caring community. 

GAITHERSBURG, MD - On Thursday, May 2nd Fleet Feet Sports, Gaithersburg will host their annual Cinco de Mayo Fun Run/Walk (yes, we know it is technically a Dos de Mayo party)! This year's event will be sponsored by asics. 

Starting at 6:30pm runners will head out into the Kentlands for the usual 3-5 mile fun run/walk. After the run, the festivities will begin with a candy and prize-filled pinata, tasty chips and salsa, awesome giveaways and raffles from asics, as well as yummy margaritas!! 

Be sure to put the event on your calendar and get ready to celebrate!!

Boy does time fly. Another year has come and gone.

There are lots of ways of marking another year has come and gone: birthdays, anniversaries, and things like that. One that hits home for me, is the Avon 2 Day Walk for Breast Cancer -- as you can imagine. For me, it has been 11 years since my diagnosis and recovery. So far, so good. And it's because of the generosity of people like you, that thousands of other men and women are able to say the same thing!

We need three men and three women, who are ready, willing and able, to model new spring running apparel from Nike. In order to be fair, we have decided to leave the selection up to you, our Facebook fans!

CONTEST DETAILS:
STEP 1 – Submit a photo of you sporting your favorite running apparel, purchased at Fleet Feet Sports, Gaithersburg.
(Photos must be submitted to marketing@fleetfeetgaithersburg.com by March 5^th)

STEP 2 – The top model entries will be posted on our Facebook page for voting.
(Photos will be posted starting on March 6^th and voting will end on March 10^th at 11:59pm.)

STEP 3 – Fleet Feet’s next top models will be announced. Each model will receive a complete outfit from Nike for FREE, as well as be a model at our Official Spring Fashion Show 2013 on April 12^th.

GAITHERSBURG, MD – February 18, 2013 – Like running? Like beer? So do we! Grab some friends and some goofy green attire, and get ready to join us for our 2^nd Annual St. Paddy’s Day Pub Run/Walk sponsored by adidas® on March 14^th at 6:30pm.

The Pub Run will begin at Fleet Feet Sports, Gaithersburg in the Kentlands’ Giant shopping center, from there runners will head out to area restaurants (Coal Fire, Quincy’s, O’Donnell’s, Bonefish Grill) for numerous, tasty beer samples!  The last stop on our run will be our friend’s Pinky and Pepe’s Grape Escape, where we will host a post-run ‘after party’ with happy hour specials, great friends and awesome giveaways.

This fun, festive, beer-filled event will be a great way to jumpstart your St. Paddy’s Day celebrations and benefits the Avon 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer. As always, Fleet Feet Sports, Gaithersburg will have a team participating in the Avon 2-Day in the spring. At the Pub Run, each participant will receive 5 beer samplers while out on the run, as well as a specially customized Pub Run commemorative adidas® pint glass.

GAITHERSBURG, MD – February 6, 2013 – Worried about open water swimming? Unsure what to expect during hectic transitions? Confused about the TRI ‘lingo’ (what the heck is a brick workout anyway?). We’ve got answers!

Once per month, over the next 3 months, Fleet Feet Sports, Gaithersburg is offering a free triathlon training seminar. Each seminar will focus on a specific portion of the triathlon.

In our first seminar we will have Matt McGoey from All-American Bikes in-house to discuss everything and anything related to the strenuous bike portion of the event. He is a successful cyclist and bicycling specialty store owner, with many years of experience and multiple cycling certifications. This seminar begins at 6:30pm on February 25^th, 2013 at our Gaithersburg Kentlands’ store.

Part 2 focuses in on the almost-always, dreaded, feared, loathed swimming event. Whether the swim for your triathlon takes place in a pool or a dark, murky lake, swim coach and personal trainer – Janet Witkowski, will provide great information and training tips to make the swim a little less daunting. Come prepared to ask Janet all of your swim-related questions, anything from wearing a swim cap to stroke technique is fair game, on March 18^th at 6:30pm.

The final portion of our TRI Seminar Series will encompass two key aspects of any triathlon – the run and transitions. Lloyd Henry from ONPoint Fitness will be on-hand to go over tips and tricks for making the switch from swim to bike and bike to run as smooth, successful and FAST as possible!

Also, as the recently announced official running shoe of the Ironman Triathlon, Newton Running will be here to discuss ways to finish strong during the final leg of your 1^st (or 50^th) triathlon. This final seminar will be held April 22^nd at 6:30pm.
