GAITHERSBURG, MD - August 28, 2013 - Fleet Feet Sports, Gaithersburg has partnered with the largest grassroots running organization in the country, the Road Runners Club of America, to promote the 8th Annual RUN@WORK Day on September 20th, 2013. Through this partnership, our organizations are working together to promote physical activity and healthy living within our community and around the country.
The goal of RUN@WORK Day is to encourage adults to get 30-minutes of exercise each day, in accordance with the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, either before work, during lunch or immediately following work. RUN@WORK Day also encourages companies to help employees schedule time for physical activity. Incorporating exercise into one's daily routine can markedly improve not only one's overall physical health, but also their at-work performance.
"We love helping people on their journey to becoming more active and fit. Living a healthy lifestyle is important to all of us at Fleet Feet Sports," remarked Chris Gault, co-owner of Fleet Feet Sports, Gaithersburg. "We do our best to help encourage area employers and their employees to plan and participate in physical activities on a daily basis."
On September 20th, Fleet Feet Sports, Gaithersburg will be doing their part in hosting a RUN@WORK Day event for those in the local community. Grab your running or walking shoes during your lunch hour (event starts at 12pm) and join Fleet Feet Sports for a noontime run or walk, plus sample sports drink and other great nutrition products, and pick-up lunch next door at Jersey Mike's afterwards (coupon provided to runners/walkers in attendance). So, grab a friend or colleague and plan to get your 30-minutes of exercise in for the day!
Remember, a survey conducted by the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation in January 2011 found that 85 percent of small companies (10-99 employees) and 76 percent of larger employers (100-2500) indicated an interest in developing running and walking clubs. RUN@WORK Day is a great opportunity for our organization to highlight how local running clubs and events can work with area businesses to meet their needs for developing such programs for their employees.
