We got together with Fleet Feet Sports runner and cyclist, Mitchell Gross after he took part in the American Cancer Society Bike Ride from Philadelphia to Atlantic City on Sunday, June 12th, 2016. This was the 10th anniversary of Mitchell and his friends tackling this long, hot summer ride.

He was drawn to the Fleet Feet Sports community, and connected with store owners, Chris and Robyn in part because of their giving nature. He recognized Fleet Feet's passion for giving back to the community; something that is very important to him.

Was this your first time doing the American Cancer Society Bike-a-thon Philadelphia to Atlantic City event?

No. Ten years ago one of my best friends said that he decided he was going to raise money and ride 65 miles from Philadelphia to Atlantic City. So my other best friend and I said "we'll join you." And we've ridden every year since then.

What motivated and inspired you to do the event?

I've known too many family, friends and others who have been both directly and indirectly affected by cancer. I felt I needed to make a difference.

What's the hardest part of the journey?

Even in the heat of the summer, and riding for either 65 or 100 miles, I don't let myself feel that it is hard because there are people in front of me, next to me and behind me who are battling the disease and/or survivors.

How much training/preparation goes into the weeks and months leading up to the ride?

Not until this year, when I started running (because it was too dark and dangerous to ride through the winter) did I ever really train. Most of my riding has been through long fundraising rides, but without really training!

You're a runner too! What's your favorite running shoe?

Not sure yet! I started with Saucony, then New Balance and Asics. I think the Asics have been the best for me so far.

What's the most recent running race/event you've completed?

I just did my first duathlon (run/bike/run) over the 4th of July weekend in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

What are some upcoming health/fitness/running related goals you have for the future?

I would like to participate in more local community, Fleet Feet supported events and I'm doing a half marathon in Tel Aviv, Israel next February!

Mitchell is just one awesome example of The Power of Running and all of the good and inspiring things that can happen when you get active and get moving.

We are excited to celebrate all of the inspirational runners, walkers and fitness enthusiasts in our local community the entire month of August.
