FLEET FEET SPORTS, GAITHERSBURG AWARDED “FITlanthropy” GRANT FROM NIKE AND FLEET FEET SPORTS, INC. TO PROVIDE SHOES TO UNDERPRIVILEGED YOUTH
NIKE TO MAKE LOCALLY-OWNED SPECIALTY RUNNING RETAILER A ‘NIKE CONCEPT STORE”
GAITHERSBURG, MD June 25, 2012 – Fleet Feet Sports, Gaithersburg was awarded a FITlanthropy grant from Nike and Fleet Feet Sports, Inc. at the National Fleet Feet Sports Franchisee “Beyond2012” conference in Washington, DC Thursday evening. In recognition for outstanding contributions to the community, having provided shoes and socks to many Gaithersburg children in need over the past seven years, and creating the system so thousands of donated used pairs found their way to those in need, owners Robyn and Chris Gault were proud and humbled to accept the $3,000 Nike grant award to be able to FIT more children in need with proper running shoes.
“Our community has a great need, and we’ve been happy to serve that need as often as we can, but there are always more local kids who can’t afford proper shoes for their track or cross country program, or for PE class, and we want to be able to do more for them. Nike and fleet Feet Sports, Inc. have now granted us the funds to be able to do just that,” said Chris Gault.
Robyn Gault adds, “We are very excited. We hope to partner with a local non-profit organization who works with these children first-hand to administer the program.”
Nike also has selected Fleet Feet Sports, Gaithersburg as Nike’s next “Concept Store.” As a concept store, Fleet Feet Sports, Gaithersburg will dedicate a portion of the store to highlight Nike’s apparel and footwear lines, and be able to offer local customers a comprehensive look at Nike’s specialty running apparel collection. “Nike will re-build a portion of our store’s interior to perfectly highlight their apparel line. Literally overnight last Friday, they gave our store a Nike Concept makeover,” explains Robyn Gault. Chris Gault clarifies, “We will also continue to carry several other apparel brands our customers know and love, as well as most brands of specialty running shoes.”
