Throughout the months of August and September we celebrated The Power of Running. From The Power of Running FOR GOOD with giveback weekends raising funds for the Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless, to The Power of Running TOGETHER with over 260 runners and walkers coming together for local teen, Austin Cohen, battling cancer - The Power of Running campaign helped remind us just how incredible and transformative running can be for everyone.
Also during this time, Fleet Feet's across the country accepted nominations for The Power of Running TO INSPIRE. We asked that you submit someone who's inspired you, who embodies what the power of running can do, who has used running to positively impact the community and others. And we have selected our winners.
Many of you have probably already met or at least crossed paths with Latrice Grimes. Latrice is a very familiar face when it comes to Fleet Feet Sports Training Programs, FFSRC Fun Runs and various Fleet Feet events! Latrice's running and healthy lifestyle journey has helped her shed over 50 pounds. She's crossed the finish line at over 7 races and she's earned medals (because she loves the BLING!), but what really stands out about Latrice is her attitude towards her training and the way that attitude helps to inspire and encourage those around her to keep moving forward; to step outside of their comfort zone - just like she did!
"I've always been a fan of running from afar, believing it was an unattainable goal," Latrice commented about her start in running. Like many, Latrice felt running just wasn't for her and that it was something she'd simply never do. Luckily she came across Fleet Feet Sports and had the courage to step outside of her comfort zone and the results have been amazing. Just this past weekend (October 25th, 2015), she crossed another finish line - this time the Marine Corps MCM 10K! In addition to having goals of her own - conquering the half marathon distance - she has aspirations of mentoring new runners as they join the Fleet Feet running community so their journey can be just as incredible as her's has been.
Read below the kind words that were written about Latrice for The Power of Running TO INSPIRE contest:
Latrice...wow, where do I start with Latrice? She is one of the most kind people I know. She has been a client of mine at our Bootcamp/training studio and to say she inspires everyone in the room is to put it mildly. She wanted to lose weight so we finally convinced her to join our studio. She quickly made a place for herself among the 5:55am group. She has surpassed every challenge we have put out for her and then she joined the Fleet Feet Sports running program and has completed multiple 5Ks and has aspirations of running a half marathon. I have no doubt she will accomplish that. She works in a pediatrician's office and always puts the patients at ease. She has convinced friends to workout with her, join her running group, sign up for various races around the city and she even raised money for the Autism Foundation. She is leading by example and she has only just started her journey. She has already lost 51 pounds and she inspires so many around her that they can too!
If you see Latrice around be sure to congratulate her and wish her luck as she moves on to the final round of the #TPOR contest. She will be up against nominations from Fleet Feet Sports across the country for a $500 prize and a chance to be named this year's The Power of Running TO INSPIRE Overall Nationwide Winner!
