If you’ve ever attended a Fleet Feet Fun Run or took a Fleet Feet Training Program, you probably recognize Mary’s smiling face. (She’s the one who always seems to win the raffle prizes!)

Back in 2011 Mary made a New Years Resolution to become a runner. With the help of her first running coach, her husband Chuck, she was able to achieve that goal – running three 5K’s that first year.

Also that year, Mary and her husband received some devastating news – Chuck was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Although Chuck lost his battle with pancreatic cancer, Mary has him to thank for getting her on her feet and running. She now dedicates her time to coaching others through our No Boundaries 5K program – helping inspire them just as Chuck inspired her early in her journey.

Just a few weeks ago, on June 13th, Mary and a team of many fellow Fleet Feet members rallied together on team “With Luck From Chuck” at the PurpleStrides 2015 Pancreatic Cancer 5K.

With over 48 people on her team – most of which were part of the Fleet Feet Family! – she was able to raise over $5,000 to benefit the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Mary was thrilled with her teams success, “I was so happy to see so many of my running friends use their legs to help raise funds to beat this dreaded disease.”

The team name came from Mary’s uncanny ability to win Fleet Feet raffles at Thursday night FFSRC Fun Runs/Walks – in fact, she just won a CEP compression shirt at last week’s event! In addition, Fleet Feet runner, Thai Lam, who assisted in getting the order in to Custom Ink, designed the team shirt. Each week at Custom Ink they select a winning shirt design, and as icing on the cake, Mary’s team shirt design won!

Mary is excited to see what next year’s event can bring – a bigger Fleet Feet Family team and even more funds raised is just the beginning!
